Artist's Comments

I spend a lot of time in Yosemite National Park. I live nearby and it's full of inspiration for paintings, both representational and abstract. It's one of the best locations I know of, in which, to paint plein air. I also volunteer a week or two each year, to take visitors to the park, out to paint the sights, on behalf of the Yosemite Conservancy. So, I spend a lot of hours in single locations, all over Yosemite. Yosemite life comes to YOU, when anchored to one spot. Deer, birds, squirrels, foxes, chipmunks, bears and, yes, horseback rangers pass by. Park Rangers are as vital a part of Yosemite as the majestic waterfalls, rock formations and wild life are. With little monetary compensation, rangers provide information, security and safety for flora, fauna and visitors alike. The rangers on horseback extend these services to visitors in isolated locations of the high country and I felt they should be celebrated. This painting received the Best of Show award in the Yosemite Sierra Artists 51st Annual Open Art Competition and Exhibition.
