Important residents, when making a list of the animals living in Yosemite National Park, the Big Horn Sheep is often forgotten. Likely, because they are so elusive and occupy the highest, most remote, most precarious elevations of the Sierra’s. While high country backpackers may spot them from a distance, even those occasions are rare. Ironically, while it was not a member of the Sierra clan, I once spotted a California Big Horn ram, up close, over the backyard fence of a Santa Suzanna, CA resident who was holding a mayoral campaign fund-raiser for my father. A magnificent beast!
