Artist's Comments
This is what I consider to be a plein air color sketch. I began it as a demonstration, on location, in Yosemite National park and finished it back in my studio, from reference photos I'd taken. The demonstration was part of a workshop I was leading for a group of Yosemite National Park visitors. I took the group out to paint on behalf of the Yosemite Happy Isles Art Center. Funds from the effort help support the Yosemite Conservancy in their efforts to protect, maintain and restore the national park.
I use color sketches like this as plans for possible larger, more finished paintings. Although the color sketches are painted loosely, art collectors seem to like their impressionistic quality and often purchase and add them to their art collections.
