I've unconsciously slipped into a series based on the animals of Yosemite National Park and the surrounding Sierra Nevada mountains, where I live. They started with my painting of a fishing bear, "Rare Sighting," continued with a painting of a Great Blue Heron, "At Risk," and then one of two ravens in their nest, "Modern Building Materials." You could even include my birds eye view of Yosemite Valley, "A Dream of Yosemite," which includes several animals, as well. So, this is the fourth (or fifth, if you count Dream) animals in the series. It was inspired by several spottings of a mountain lion in our neighborhood. Mountain lions are not to be taken lightly and the spotting led me to take a baseball bat along each night, as I traveled to out buildings on the far corners of our property to turn on the security lights each night. Can't be sure if the painting is respect for the beast, a challenge or maybe a totem to keep it at bay on my nightly journey!
