Artist's Comments
I grew up in Venice, CA and began surfing at the age of 13. I spent my early years surfing breaks I could reach by towing my board behind my bicycle, on a rickshaw, or by bumming a ride from my parents (I never lived more than a couple of miles from the beach). Once I was old enough to drive, my friends and I began traveling up and down the coast of California and down into Mexico, looking for great new breaks to experience. My dream was to do the traveling in a 1948 Ford "Woody." I never achieved the dream, but here's my abstracted representation of the vehicle. The piece took Best in Show in the 2016 exhibiion at Chris Sorensen's Gallery, Planes, Trains & Automobiles.
