I'm of hispanic decent on my mother's side of the family. Her father, my grandfather, was born in Nogales, Mexico and at sometime during his childhood, the family immigrated across the border to Nogales, Arizona. Her maiden name is Gomez. Although, he founded a thriving business in the U.S. and worked hard at it all his life, he never actually became an American citizen. My abuelo Francisco (grampa frank) had four older sisters who maintained duel residency in the United States and Mexico, so there was a lot of travel back and forth. Being the first grandchild in his family, visits from his sisters, cousins, nieces and nephews rendered many gifts from south of the border. My favorites were the carved and painted alebrijes animals. The animals from my childhood are long gone, played to death, but in the late '70s or early '80s, I began a new collection of them and Dia de Los Muertos sculptures. This still life features what I believe is a wild pig, from my collection.
