Off the northern route into Yosemite (Highway 140) is the Merced River Recreation area, marked by a very cool little stone building out on the highway. Drive down the little dirt road and you arrive at this spot above a bend in this branch of the Merced River. I journeyed out this day with the Yosemite Western Artists plein air group. The river was down, so I had all these river rocks to paint. Happy, happy, joy, joy! Why Miner's Camp? Swing around the gate, blocking automobile access and travel further up the dirt road on foot and you'll arrive at the ruins of an old mining operation.
