Sightings of coyotes are pretty normal in Yosemite or the Sierra Mountain foothills below, in which I live. Often laying in bed at night or in a sleeping bag up in the park, we'll hear a nearby coyote yelp out a communication, only to be answered by another member of the pack far away. This conversation continues among the canine membership with the howls getting closer and closer together...the pack is closing in around identified prey. The unnerving communications can continue for minutes or an hour, as we lay there hoping the conference call will end, unsuccessful.
