My wife, Betty, is of Dutch descent, on both sides. Her mother immigrated to America, with her family, when she was just 10 years old. Her father was born, in America, to recent immigrants from the Netherlands. The blue and white china pottery from the Dutch town of Delft, is collected and highly prized by Betty’s extended family. There are two large matching Delft vases in their collection, that traveled, in the arms of her grandparents, when they immigrated to America.
So, when Betty and I vacationed two weeks in the Netherlands, traveling to Delft and purchasing a piece of pottery there was a must.
Betty’s been pestering me for some time to paint flowers. So, this still life, featuring roses and our Netherlands purchased Delft ginger jar, I’ve titled Betty’s Request.
