The Sierra foothills are gorgeous this time of year, green grasses\u00a0more reminiscent of\u00a0Ireland than California.\u00a0Our\u00a0heavily snow-capped Sierras dominated the northern horizon. It was a perfect day to travel.<\/p>\n<p>KFCF&#8217;s Free Speech Radio home is a modest converted 50&#8217;s residential\u00a0residence just off the Tower District&#8217;s main drag, in Fresno, CA. Stepping through the front door,\u00a0I suspected this would be an\u00a0atypical Fresno experience. Warm greetings from the local radio personalities set us at ease. Jon is an old friend of the establishment, but this was my first visit.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-337 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/trowzersakimbo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/early-KFCF-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Early at KCFC Photo\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/trowzersakimbo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/early-KFCF-300x300.jpg 300w, http:\/\/trowzersakimbo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/early-KFCF-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/trowzersakimbo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/early-KFCF-100x100.jpg 100w, http:\/\/trowzersakimbo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/early-KFCF.jpg 504w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 85vw, 300px\" \/>We were a bit early\u00a0and\u00a0the host of our segment on Art Attack, Janet Alexander Flores, had not yet arrived. A little time to chill with a cool bottle of water.<\/p>\n<p>Janet arrived, introductions,\u00a0a quick catch up on personal events with Jon (Jon and Janet have become old friends), sound checks and we were off. The half hour was less interview and more a 3-way conversation on art between friends, as we reviewed our backgrounds for the listening audience,\u00a0then\u00a0touched on my upcoming show, the opening of Jon&#8217;s new Gallery 5, Yosemite Renaissance, Sierra Art Trails open studio weekend, Yosemite Western Artist&#8217;s upcoming Tri-County show and concerns about likely changes to the National Endowment\u00a0for the Arts (NEA) and how that would\u00a0effect arts funding.<\/p>\n<p>Headsets and microphones aside,\u00a0the conversation continued, off-air, for another hour.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve\u00a0stumbled on an oasis of like-minded intelligent souls in an increasingly intolerant world.
